So, my session this week turned out to be especially wacky and ended on a fantastic note.

One of the members of our group discovered a beating heart inside a box and, naturally, his first instinct was to stab it. Next thing we know, the corpse of an undead dragon (undead…dragon. Just though I should emphasise this idea.) fell out of the sky and landed in front of us. This then led to great discussion as what to do with it.

One person said: ‘Let’s turn it into a kite!’

which led to: ‘or a hot air balloon!’

My character, who is a dwarven engineer, then thought: ‘a blimp!’

So half the session was spent designing and putting together our very own dragon blimp powered by the magic of a fire mage.

This is to be our group’s new mode of transportation that my dwarf pilots and we have taken a leaf from WoW’s book and named the ship “The Sindragosa”. She is so pretty!

I think the first and last images work best, probably because the woman who’s sitting on top is of the right proportion in comparison with the woman she’s sitting on, whereas the others look odd because she’s too small.

I’m not going to be able to shut up about how much I loved ParaNorman. The nuanced character animation. The brilliant lighting and quirky asymmetrical world design. The ballsy, dark storytelling reminiscent of the best of the 80’s “kids” movies. The John Carpenter meets John Hughes vibe. The next in a very small lineup of movies that channels the best of what The Goonies gave us.

So instead of boring you with movie drivel, I’m posting my five favorite photos from the equally wonderful Art & Making Of ParaNorman book (which is an ultra-cheap $26.40 at Amazon right now!)

The Judge has the most amazingly nuanced animation in the ParaNorman.

The set dressers spared no expense for Norman’s bedsheets.

Even the car designs generated laughs when first seen on screen.

My two favorite artists on this show conspired on a design that only shows up for a single shot in the movie.

I’m looking foraward to ParaNorman

Gah, why am I still reading Looking for Group? It’s so friggin’ awful.

It’s the dialogue feels all horrible and I don’t think I’ve laughed at anything in it for ages, despite it trying to be a comedy webcomic. I re-read it a little while ago, and even the bits I used to think were funny are almost ridiculously unfunny. Plus it’s made by the same guys as Least I Could Do, so maybe that’s why it’s a pretty awful read.

I think I’ll give up on reading it soon.
